The UNESCO Chair is an important project of UNESCO to promote academic exchanges between universities and other higher education institutions and to promote international cooperation. At present, there are 917 teaching chairs in 114 countries, and 23 teaching chairs in China. The Chair in Media and Women is the only UNESCO Chair in the field of information communication and women/gender studies in China. The teaching chair was established in Communication University of China by UNESCO in 2005. In 2018, it was approved to set up a joint teaching chair at China Women's University, integrating the advantageous resources of the two universities to jointly build a teaching platform.
