The 3rd “Building A Human Community with A Shared Future” Successfully Held

The “Building A Human Community with A Shared Future - International Think Tank Forum (2023)” was successfully held on October 26, 2023 in Wuhu, Anhui Province. Initiated by Communication University of China (CUC) in 2021, the Building A Human Community with A Shared Future - International Think Tank Forum has been successfully held for two sessions. This year's forum, which is jointly hosted by Communication University of China and Anhui Normal University, is the first to be held offline.

The Opening Ceremony of “Building A Human Community with A Shared Future - International Think Tank Forum (2023)”

Overlapping with the 10th anniversary of the proposal of the “Belt and Road Initiative” and the vision for A Human Community with A Shared Future, and the successful holding of the third “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation, key leaders and renowned experts and scholars of universities, think tanks and research institutes, from a total of 15 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and South America gathered to made keynote speeches on the topic of A Human Community with A Shared Future and the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing their insights on how to promote the high-quality development of the Belt and Road and how to help build a human community with a shared future.

Secretary Hu Zhaorong made an opening speech

Hu Zhaorong, Secretary of Anhui Normal University, extended warm congratulations the convening of the  Building A Human Community with A Shared Future - International Think Tank Forum (2023) and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the guests from all over the world for their strong support and participation. Secretary Hu noted that the concept of Building A Human Community with A Shared Future, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping have profoundly answered the question of the times, what's wrong with this world” and “what we should do about it”, which have caused a great deal of repercussions around the world and are being positively responded to by an increasing number of countries and regions. We are confident that our discussion on A Human Community with a Shared Future and 'The Belt and Road' will be fruitful.

Liu Shouxun, Vice President of CUC, made a speech

Liu Shouxun, Vice President of CUC, expected all experts and scholars to play a combined role in the theoretical research and global dissemination of the concept of A Human Community with A Shared Future, and to contribute their wisdom and strength to the promotion of building A Human Community with A Shared Future and the creation of better future for mankind. He also hoped that taking this forum as an opportunity, CUC and Anhui Normal University could expand their cooperation in the future to turn the forum into an important platform for international cooperation, to make a wider academic impact and play a greater role in academic leadership.

Weerasinghe Geeganage, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL), conveyed the sincerest greetings of the CPSL to this forum. The current era is undergoing more and more revolutionary changes, in the course of which more and more countries are beginning to awaken and to join the wave of anti-Western hegemony. At the same time, Asia's development achievements are striking, and China's development is becoming the most powerful engine for global economic growth. It is on this background that General Secretary Xi Jinping has put forward the concept of A Human Community with A shared future, which points the way for the development of both China and the world. The introduction and promotion of the Belt and Road initiative has promoted economic cooperation and humanistic exchanges among countries.

The inauguration of the Japan Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Li Huailiang, Dean of the Institute for a Community with Shared Future (ICSF) at CUC, Professor Junichiro Namoto of the School of Law at Toyo University and the guests witnessed the inauguration of the Japan Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future. On behalf of Central Compilation & Translation Press (CCTP), Xi Weidong, President and Editor-in-Chief of CCTP, presented Xi Jinping’s View on a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity, The 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and A Brief History of the Communist Party of China (CPC), etc., to the foreign delegates at the scene.

Mr Wei Haisheng, former Associate Dean of the Academy of Party History and Literature Research for Party Central Committee and member of The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made a speech titled Increasing Exchanges and Mutual Learning Between Civilizations, Promoting the Construction of A Human Community with A Shared Future. To deepen the exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, find the largest resonance of the common endeavors for the betterment of the world and consolidate the value identity and humanistic foundation for building a human community with a shared future, he elaborated on the main connotation, significance, value orientation and realization path of strengthening civilization exchanges and mutual learning and promoting the building of a human community with a shared future and proposed to make sustained efforts in adhering to openness and inclusiveness, carrying forward common values, promoting inheritance and innovation, and strengthening humanistic exchanges across the five dimensions of culture, theory, history, era and practice.

Li Huailiang, Dean of the Institute for a Community with A Shared Future (ICSF) of CUC, gave a speech titled The Three Key Points of the Conception of A Human Community with A Shared Future. He pointed out that the building of a human community with a shared future encompassed the three dimensions of a community of interests, a community of responsibilities and a community of values. The purpose of seeking common interests is to promote the sustainable development of the world economy and to insist on win-win cooperation; accelerate the building of a community of responsibility, take the initiative in assuming international responsibilities and obligations, insist on promoting the construction of a new type of international relations, and adhere to the principle of fairness and justice; and adhere to the concept of the value of building and sharing and join hands to promote the common values of all humankind.

Scholars made keynote speeches

The Co-Director of the East African Resesarch Center of A Human Community with A Shared Future, Dean Rector Kosta Riek Maharu, made a speech on the topic of “A Community of A Shared Future: An African Perspective”, believing that building A Human Community with A Shared Future had provided a strong and lasting impetus to world development, brought greater certainty to world development and global governance, which promoted humanistic exchanges on a global scale; Centering on the topic of Building A Human Community with A Shared Future and the Belt and Road Initiative, Dean Pratibha Mahanamahewa of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, pointed out that the Belt and Road Initiative has inherited and promoted human civilization, and has also helped Sri Lanka tremendously to get rid of the economic crisis, so that Sri Lanka can recover from the economic crisis and livelihood crisis; Jean-Christophe Bass, Director of the European Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future, focusing on the topic Reinventing the Global Compact for the 21st Century, argued that the concept of A Human Community with A Shared Future allows us to reduce and overcome our differences in communication while jointly charting the course of human development; Xu Qingqi, Director of the ASEAN Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future, gave a speech entitled A Human Community with A Shared Future is Rooted in China's World View of the World, argued that the concept of A Human Community with A Shared Future is China's response to geopolitical tensions, a divided world, and an existential threat to humankind posed by climate change, and that it can help to shape a better world for us in the 21st century; Liu Tongfang, Dean of the School of Marxism at Zhejiang University, with the title of Some Issues in the Study of A Human Community with A Shared Future, believed that the construction of A Human Community with A Shared Future should establish the concept of the supremacy of the whole of mankind, and shape the role of China in the great vision, so as to solve the problems faced by mankind by means of joint cooperation; Aniba Carlos Soterre, Director of the Mexican Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future, speaking on the topic The State and Mexico: the Concept of A Human Community with A Shared Future, pointed out that the concept of A Human Community with A Shared Future is based on equality, peace, solidarity and cooperation among all countries, which is an important reason why the concept has continued to achieve fruitful results in practice; Khalid Taimur Akram, Director of the Pakistan Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future, speaking on the topic of “'The Belt and Road’ and Economic Cooperation”, pointed out that the Belt and Road Initiative had provided a strong impetus for global economic recovery and created more opportunities for different countries and regions to connect and learn from one another on the basis of common development and mutual concern for each other's interests; The Director of the Latin American Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future, Szafran, speaking on the topic of “The Decade of A Human Community with A Shared Future: Towards the Democratization of International Relations”, believed that China offers another possibility for world development, that A Human Community with A Shared Future contains a lot of economic and cultural characteristics with Chinese characteristics, and that the joint construction of the  Belt and Road and the promotion of the building of A Human Community with A Shared Future are concrete samples of the practice in the process of the development of the human society; Junichiro Namoto, Executive Director of the Japan Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future, spoke on the topic “Can the SDGs and environmental, social and national (corporate) governance be incorporated into corporation law?”, arguing that communication is very important and that the key to building A Human Community with A Shared Future lies in coordinating the different stakeholders and facilitating joint problem-solving.

The keynote speech in the afternoon was hosted by Prof. Zhang Yanqiu, Deputy Dean of the ICSF of CUC and Li Xiangxing, Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism at Anhui Normal University. Prof. Ana Claudia Figueroa, Director of the Angolan Research Centre for A Human Community with A Shared Future and Methodist University of Angola, Prof. Mahboob Hussian, Dean of School of History and Pakistan Studies at University of the Punjab, Associate Prof. Getachew Dinku Godana, Director of the African Study Center (Ethiopia) for ICSF, Jorge Díaz, researcher at the “China-Venezuela” Research Centre for A Human community with a Shared Future, Ebenezer Adebisi Olawuyi, Director of the West Africa (Nigeria) Research Centre for A Human Community with a Shared Future, Prof. Dai Zhaoguo, Chief Editor of Anhui Normal University Publishing House, Sugath Mahinda Senarath, Director of Sri Lankan Research Center for A Human Community with A Shared Future, Professor Winston Manor, University of Westminster, United Kingdom, and David Haruna Mlisiu, Assistant Director of the East Africa Research Centre for A Human community with a Shared Future (Tanzania), Zhang Yanqiu,Deputy Dean of the ICSF of CUC, Prof. Niu Zhendong, School of Computer Science, Beijing Institute of Technology, Prof. Anthony Moriti, School of Informatics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Robert Morris University, United States of America, made wonderful speeches on “Building A Human Community with A Shared Future and World Peace” and “‘Belt and Road’ and Sustainable Development”, respectively.

Prof. Dai Zhaoguo, Editor-in-Chief of Anhui Normal University Publishing House, entitled “Building A Human Community with A Shared Future and Starting a New Civilizational Journey in the Development of World History”, believed that A Human Community with A share future is to let the essence of civilizations of all countries and races work together for the benefit of mankind. Prof. Zhang Yanqiu, Deputy Dean of the ICSF of CUC, gave a lecture on Media Cultural Diversity in the Framework of Community, explaining the significance of the promotion of media cultural diversity in the international community to the building a human community with a shared future from the perspective of constructivism. She argued that, given the persistent vulnerability of developing countries in the international information and communication order and the problems and challenges posed by Western liberal journalistic values to the progress of developing countries, including the polarization of societies and the over-politicization of the media, the reintroduction of communication for development and the introduction of constructive journalism would have long-term significance for the countries of the global South in the building of a global body of cultural diversity in the media.

The Closing Ceremony of the forum was hosted by Zhang Yanqiu, Deputy Dean of the ICSF of CUC. Dean Yao Hongzhi of the School of Marxism, Anhui Normal University, made a summary for the forum. Li Huailiang, Dean of the ICSF of CUC delivered a closing speech. An award ceremony for outstanding international research centers and an appointment ceremony for Fellows of the International Academic Alliance was also held.

Momentous changes of a like not seen in a century are accelerating across the world, and the changes in the world, in history and in the times are unfolding in an unprecedented manner. “Building A Human Community with A Shared Future - International Think Tank Forum (2023)” is an annual series of international high-end academic activities initiated by the Institute for a Community with Shared Future (ICSF) of CUC. The forum brought together top experts from academia and the trade union for fruitful sharing and discussion on A Human Community with a Shared Future and the Belt and Road, which strengthened the construction of an international research platform on the theory of A Human Community with a Shared Future across disciplines and cultures, and opened up a new chapter in exploring international exchanges and co-operation.
